The Cho Wa History

The Cho-Wa was founded by Sensei Mick Good, who was already a 2nd Dan in Judo but had been studying Ju-Jitsu under Sensei John Strode and Professor Dick Morris. Mick was graded to Sho-Dan in 1980 his interest grew and  in his thirst for knowledge he began to attend courses run by Robert Clark 9th Dan head of the World Ju-Jitsu Federation. This meant a considerable amount of travelling up to Liverpool, Blackpool,  Manchester and also to Essex, where most of the instructional courses were held.

There were no Ju-Jitsu clubs around Surrey or Sussex so the only thing to do was open our own. So in 1983 we opened a Club in Ifield, Crawley, West Sussex. Since those early days The Cho-Wa  has gained World recognition through the World Martial Arts Council. We have met people and made friends all over the globe.

The Association boasts a printed and highly comprehensive syllabus, including:

  • History of Ju-Jitsu

  • Japanese Translations

  • Etiquette

  • Grading Notes & Requirements

  • A Full Coaching & Award System for Ju-Jitsu & Weapons
